Ground Kocha is black tea powder that’s been stone-ground in the same kind of traditional Japanese stone mills used to make Matcha.

It has a full-bodied, malty aroma with sweet, chocolate undertones. Black tea powder can be used in the same way you might use a culinary matcha and works especially well in lattes, shakes and sweets.

Black Tea Latte

When the leaves are ground into powder and consumed whole we get a far greater amount of nutrients from the tea than when simply steeping the leaves.

Drinking black tea may not usually deliver a great amount of caffeine, but when ground into a powder much more caffeine is consumed. We find a teaspoon of Kocha powder equivalent to about a half shot of coffee, though high levels of antioxidants slow the absorption of caffeine, making for a much gentler ride.

Tea also contains the amino acid L-theanine – which increases alpha-frequency brain activity, calming the mind while increasing alertness.

The combination of L-theanine and caffeine is often used in Nootropics intended to increase alertness. Ground teas provide this combination in it’s natural, most bio-available state.

Our Ground Kocha

Our Ground Kocha has been sourced especially for us and is made from 100% black tea leaves of the Assamica cultivar, which are stone-ground using traditional Japanese milling methods.

Preparation

A great way to use Ground Kocha is in a black tea latte: Warm a cup of your preferred milk in a pot and sift a tablespoon of Kocha powder into a bowl along with a teaspoon of your favourite sweetener. Brown sugar or evaporated coconut sugar both compliment the black tea really well. Add a small amount of the milk at first and whisk untill well combined. Use a frother or stick-blender to aerate and thicken the remaining milk and add to the mixture.

Warm 1 cup of milk in a pot.

Sift 1Tbsp Ground Kocha into bowl.

Whisk with a small amount of milk and sweetener.

Froth the remaining milk.

Add to bowl.

Enjoy!
